Network disruptions expected during July 1 maintenance

The University of Oregon network will experience one or more brief, broad disruptions during a planned equipment upgrade in early July.

On Monday, July 1, from 7 to 11 p.m., Information Services will replace two pieces of core network equipment that serve all UO campuses.

During that time, staff expect at least one widespread network outage lasting about 15 minutes. Affected services will include Wi-Fi, wired networking in some buildings, UO VPN and some specialized network-dependent services.

The network may be unstable throughout the maintenance window.

"We'll be replacing an existing pair of devices with new, higher-performance models to meet the needs of UO networking traffic," said Joe Mailander, director of network services. "Knowing this important work would be disruptive, we're trying to minimize impacts through scheduling and communication."

Anyone with questions about possible impacts can contact the network services team in Information Services at uonetwork@uoregon.edu.
